Twilio SMS with SORS ERP
Twilio is configured for international SMS, sitting alongside the local gateways used for Bangladeshi numbers.
Twilio is a global messaging provider, useful where a business has customers, suppliers or staff outside Bangladesh who still need order or account notifications.
It is not the sensible route for domestic traffic. Local gateways deliver better and cost far less per message inside Bangladesh, which is why both exist side by side rather than one replacing the other.
What is actually built
Stated plainly, including the parts that are not finished.
Twilio is one of the sixteen SMS gateways configured in SORS ERP, using the same templates, triggers and delivery logs as the local gateways. Vonage and AWS SNS are also available for international traffic.
How to set it up
In order. Each step assumes the one before it.
-
Create a Twilio account
Get the account SID, auth token and a sending number.
-
Configure the gateway
Enter the credentials in SMS gateway settings.
-

Keep Bangladeshi numbers on a local gateway and use Twilio for international destinations.
-

Questions
Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.
Should I use Twilio for Bangladeshi customers?
Generally no. Local gateways deliver better and cost considerably less for domestic traffic. Twilio earns its place for international destinations.
Are international messages billed differently?
Yes, by the provider rather than by us. The delivery log records what was sent through which gateway, which is what you need to check a bill against.
