Barcode printers and scanners with SORS ERP

Generate barcodes in bulk from item data, print labels from templates, and scan at the counter and in the godown.

Imported goods usually arrive with a manufacturer barcode. Locally packed goods, loose items and anything repacked do not, so most Bangladeshi shops need to generate and print their own.

Scanning is the part that pays for itself. A counter that scans is faster and, more importantly, accurate, because the item that leaves stock is the item that was on the receipt.

What is actually built

Stated plainly, including the parts that are not finished.

Barcode templates and bulk barcode generation are part of SORS ERP, and scanning works at the POS counter and in stock operations with standard USB or Bluetooth scanners that behave as keyboards. No proprietary hardware is required.

How to set it up

In order. Each step assumes the one before it.

  1. Set up a barcode template

Choose the label size and what it shows: item name, code, price, or all three.

  2. Generate codes for your items

Bulk generation covers a whole category or an imported item list at once.

  3. Print a test sheet

Print to your label printer and check the code scans cleanly before printing a full run.

  4. Scan at the counter

A keyboard emulation scanner needs no configuration in the ERP; it types the code into the search field.

Questions

Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.

What kind of scanner do I need?

Any standard scanner that behaves as a keyboard, which covers most USB and Bluetooth retail scanners. No driver or proprietary hardware is required.

Can I print price labels when prices change?

Yes. Bulk price updates and bulk barcode generation work together, so a category price change can be followed by printing the labels that go with it.
