TallyPrime alternatives for Bangladeshi businesses

TallyPrime is made by Tally Solutions. If you are considering something else, here is a fair account of what it does well, what usually prompts the search, and what the alternatives are.

TallyPrime is desktop accounting software from Tally Solutions, an Indian company founded in 1991 that reports more than 2.7 million businesses using its products. Tally runs a Bangladesh website in Bangla and English with local partners, lists Silver (single PC) at USD 405 and Gold (multi-user) at USD 1,215 with a year of TSS, and offers a 7-day trial. Features on the Bangladesh site include invoicing and accounting, inventory with bill of materials and reorder levels, banking with bank reconciliation, payroll, browser access to reports and sharing invoices on WhatsApp. Mushak forms are not listed for TallyPrime; older Tally.ERP 9 documentation covered the earlier Musak 11 invoice format.

SORS Technology makes SORS ERP, so we are one of the alternatives listed below and we have an interest in your decision. What follows keeps TallyPrime's strengths in its own words from public sources, marks what we could not verify as unknown, and says plainly where SORS ERP is the weaker choice.

Why businesses look for an alternative

Common reasons buyers give, not claims about the vendor.

  • Mushak forms rather than VAT configuration

TallyPrime is accounting software with a strong reputation, and Bangladesh VAT is generally handled through configuration or partner add-ons rather than native Mushak forms. Businesses under NBR scrutiny often want the forms produced by the system itself.

  • Everything outside the ledger

Tally is not a full ERP. Retail counters, HR and payroll, e-commerce, courier shipments and SMS live elsewhere, and each of those integrations is somebody's manual reconciliation.

  • Per machine licensing and access from anywhere

An on premise, per machine product suits an accounts room. It suits an owner with three outlets and a phone rather less.

How to switch without losing your records

The sequence that keeps your VAT position intact. It applies whichever system you move to.

  1. Export the chart of accounts and masters

Tally exports readily to Excel, which makes this one of the more straightforward migrations to start.

  2. Decide what your accountant needs to keep

Most Tally migrations keep the old data readable for prior years rather than importing history.

  3. Map your VAT treatment properly

This is the part worth spending time on. Item level tax structures, truncated rates and exemptions have to be right before the first Mushak 6.3 goes out.

  4. Bring opening balances at a period boundary

Party balances, stock quantities and valuation as at the first day of a VAT period.

  5. Involve your accountant early

Accountants who have used Tally for years are the people whose objections matter most. Show them the trial balance and the ledger drill down first.

Questions

Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.

Is moving from Tally difficult?

The data side is usually straightforward, because Tally exports to Excel cleanly and masters plus opening balances are what you actually need. The harder part is people: accountants who know Tally well are fast in it, and the training time is the real cost.

Does SORS ERP do everything Tally does?

For Bangladeshi VAT and day to day accounting, it covers the ground and adds Mushak 6.3 generation, the 6.1 register and return summaries natively. Tally has decades of refinement in pure bookkeeping and a large pool of trained users, which is a real advantage we do not have.
