Odoo alternatives for Bangladeshi businesses

Odoo is made by Odoo S.A.. If you are considering something else, here is a fair account of what it does well, what usually prompts the search, and what the alternatives are.

Odoo is a modular business suite from Odoo S.A. of Belgium. The vendor describes 50 main applications, more than 50,000 community apps and 21,000+ partners worldwide, including several official partners in Dhaka. The Community edition is open source under LGPLv3; the Enterprise edition adds payroll, mobile apps, Studio, hosting and support, priced per user per month with a free single-app tier. Odoo 18 includes a Bangladesh accounting localisation with a chart of accounts, taxes and a tax report, while Mushak forms and Bangladeshi payment, courier and SMS connectors are not listed by the vendor and are usually partner work.

SORS Technology makes SORS ERP, so we are one of the alternatives listed below and we have an interest in your decision. What follows keeps Odoo's strengths in its own words from public sources, marks what we could not verify as unknown, and says plainly where SORS ERP is the weaker choice.

Why businesses look for an alternative

Common reasons buyers give, not claims about the vendor.

  • Localisation depends on the partner

Odoo is a capable, modular ERP, and Bangladesh VAT is generally delivered through partner localisation rather than natively. That makes your compliance position dependent on the partner relationship continuing.

  • Implementation cost

Reviewers cite a wide range for full Odoo implementations in Bangladesh, from a few lakh into the crores depending on scope and partner. Businesses that priced it and paused are the usual audience for an alternative.

  • Local integrations out of the box

Bangladeshi couriers, local SMS gateways, ZKTeco attendance and Mushak numbering are the sort of thing that gets built as customisation on a global platform and comes as standard on a local one.

How to switch without losing your records

The sequence that keeps your VAT position intact. It applies whichever system you move to.

  1. Separate the platform from the customisation

List what your Odoo instance does that came from your partner rather than from Odoo. That is the work that has to be replaced, and it is usually where the value sits.

  2. Export masters and balances

Odoo exports cleanly. Accounts, items, parties and opening balances at the cut-off.

  3. Check who owns your customisations

Worth establishing before you move, and worth knowing regardless.

  4. Cut over at a VAT period boundary

    One system prepares one return.

  5. Be honest about what you lose

Odoo's breadth is real. If you use manufacturing, project management or its app ecosystem seriously, moving to a smaller platform is a trade rather than an upgrade.

Questions

Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.

Is SORS ERP as capable as Odoo?

No, not in breadth. Odoo covers far more ground and has a large app ecosystem behind it. What SORS ERP offers instead is Bangladesh specific depth built in rather than implemented: Mushak forms, local couriers, local SMS gateways, ZKTeco attendance and income tax slabs.

What about Odoo Community, which is free?

The licence is the smaller part of the cost. Implementation, localisation, hosting and support are where the money goes on any self hosted ERP, and that arithmetic is worth doing properly before comparing a free licence with a subscription.
