ERPNext alternatives for Bangladeshi businesses

ERPNext is made by Frappe Technologies. If you are considering something else, here is a fair account of what it does well, what usually prompts the search, and what the alternatives are.

ERPNext is a free and open source ERP maintained by Frappe Technologies of India under the GPL-3.0 licence. The vendor's site lists accounting, procurement, sales, CRM, stock with serial and batch tracking, manufacturing, projects, point of sale, quality, support, HR and payroll and a no-code builder, and reports 30,000+ companies and 200+ partners, including a Bronze partner in Bangladesh. You can self-host for free or use Frappe Cloud, where hosting starts at USD 5 a month with no per-user fee and a 14-day trial. A community Bengali translation file ships with version 15; Bangladesh VAT and Mushak forms are not listed by the vendor.

SORS Technology makes SORS ERP, so we are one of the alternatives listed below and we have an interest in your decision. What follows keeps ERPNext's strengths in its own words from public sources, marks what we could not verify as unknown, and says plainly where SORS ERP is the weaker choice.

Why businesses look for an alternative

Common reasons buyers give, not claims about the vendor.

  • Someone has to run it

ERPNext is free to licence and capable, and self hosting means somebody has to handle servers, upgrades, backups and the occasional broken migration. Businesses without that person in house eventually pay for it one way or another.

  • Bangladesh localisation by community

Mushak forms, local couriers and local SMS gateways generally come from the community or a partner rather than the core product, which puts your compliance on a volunteer maintained footing.

  • Support when something breaks at month end

Community support is generous and is not an SLA. The value of a phone number in Bangla on the day payroll will not process is easy to underrate until that day arrives.

How to switch without losing your records

The sequence that keeps your VAT position intact. It applies whichever system you move to.

  1. Cost out what self hosting really costs you

Server, backups, upgrade work and the time of whoever handles it, over three years, against a subscription with support included.

  2. Export masters and balances

ERPNext exports readily. Accounts, items, parties and opening balances at the cut-off.

  3. Inventory your customisations

Custom doctypes, scripts and reports do not travel. Decide which are essential before you commit.

  4. Cut over at a VAT period boundary

So one system prepares one return.

  5. Keep your instance running read only

For prior year data and anything an auditor asks about the closed period.

Questions

Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.

Why pay for an ERP when ERPNext is free?

If you have technical people and want control, ERPNext is a genuinely good answer and we would not argue otherwise. The case for a paid, hosted system is that the running of it is somebody else's job and the Bangladesh specific parts are maintained rather than contributed.

Can I self host SORS ERP too?

Yes. It is a standard Laravel application and can be deployed on your own server rather than hosted by us, which is the usual answer for businesses that want their data on their own infrastructure.
