What is Backorder?
A backorder is a confirmed customer order for an item that is out of stock, held to be fulfilled when stock arrives rather than cancelled.

In Bangladesh
For shops selling on Facebook, the alternative to a backorder is usually an unanswered message and a lost customer. Recording it turns the stockout into a purchase signal.
An example
A customer orders three items and one is out of stock. Recording the missing item as a backorder means it reaches the reorder list and the customer gets it, rather than the line being deleted and forgotten.
In SORS ERP
Backorders are recorded against the order in SORS ERP and feed the replenishment picture, so what could not be supplied is visible next to what sold.

Questions
Answered plainly, including where the answer is no.
Should I take money for a backordered item?
That is a commercial decision, and for cash on delivery it usually does not arise. What matters in the records is that the promise exists somewhere other than in a message thread.
